New iPhone and iPad to have NFC built in?

John Moe Jan 25, 2011

Are you as sick of reading about the impending new iPhone and iPad as I am of typing those words? And having Microsoft Word STILL refuse to recognize them in spell check? Well, sorry. News is hard sometimes. More leaks trickling out indicate that the next generation of Apple gizmos will have near field communications (NFC) built right in, enabling you to use them as wallets even easier than you otherwise would. All this according to an analyst with anonymous sources, according to Bloomberg. Because you’d be paying with a computer instead of plastic, it also sets up the possibility of getting “customer loyalty” points (increasing the video gamization of society) and marketing sent straight to your device, maybe giving you a discount as you go to incentivize and commodify you.

Am I missing something or are people going to look silly holding up their iPads to cash registers?
