Mac app store to launch January 6

John Moe Dec 16, 2010

We have an official date now when the world of consumer software Will Be Revolutionized Forever. Unless it’s not. Steve Jobs announced the Mac app store back in late October and said it would be ready in 90 days so it’s actually ahead of schedule. We don’t yet know how many apps will be available at launch but it’s very possible that most of the initial apps will be simply bigger screen versions of popular iPad and iPhone apps. What I’ll be watching for is whether the productivity apps will fare any better on the Mac than they do on the other platforms. Angry Birds and other game/entertainment apps took up all ten of the top ten best selling app slots in the last year. But on computers we might want to get more done than destroy pigs with birds. Or not. Those pigs can get pretty cocky.
