Google mentions new partners for Google TV

John Moe Jan 6, 2012

We’ll be keeping an eye on Google at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (and MTR will be there covering it from the floor!) as the company tries to revive the zombie that is Google TV. As you’ll recall it launched in 2010 and fell with a thud. The technology was neat enough: search all over for the shows you want, watch them through a TV with built in Google or through a set top box. But the controls were stupid (an enormous qwerty keyboard) and the content providers didn’t want to play along because it meant not controlling the means of distribution for their shows.

Now Google is signing up new partners to give it another go, enlisting LG, Vizio, and Samsung. So it sounds like the device integration might be stronger. But I haven’t heard anything about the TV networks or the production houses being any more keen on playing along. We shall see. In Vegas. What happens in Vegas… gets broadcast on our show.
