And this final note. The Institute for Economics and Peace releases an annual index of the most peaceful states. This year’s winner is no surprise, because it’s won the last 10 times.

It’s where America’s day begins, so they say. I’m looking at you, Maine. Lowest violent crime rates; smallest number of police per capita; and the list goes on.

At the other end of the scale: Louisiana. Where America’s day never ends — but would we want it to there?
