Is the era of the business card over?

Jeremy Hobson and David Brancaccio Mar 16, 2012

Here at the Marketplace offices, we don’t see many too many business cards lying around anymore.

The L.A. Times today ran a piece on why business cards are dead, focusing on the decline of the printing industry and the rise of Web-savvy workers.

But is the era of the business card really over?

Here to talk with us in today’s Mid-day Extra is Meredith Haberfeld, a career adviser and co-founder of the Institute for Coaching.

According to her, there are still some people out there who would prefer stockpiling cards to whipping out their iPhone to add a contact, so it is never a bad idea to keep a few cards on hand. But in this world where we want to seek out information, and not have it forced on us, going around handing out business cards unsolicited can seem a bit uncouth.
