The University of Maryland Medical System is addressing retention issues through a program that offers apprenticeships, resume writing classes, and other support for employees facing transportation, childcare, and housing barriers.
“There's a very, very strong idea that dentists are very, very wealthy,” said Dr. Katherine Sislow. “You know, ‘My crown is just paying for your next boat payment,’ right? And I'm like, ‘You haven't even touched the cost of my rent for this month.’”
