Venmo ghosting, just in time for spooky season

According to a survey by Zelle, nearly half of Gen Z consumers have gone into debt covering costs for friends. And more than half — 55% — of respondents said that repayment has caused arguments or tension among friends.

Samantha Leal wrote about the phenomenon of “repayment avoidance” for The Cut.

“There are so many ways to pay back people, and especially on shared expenses,” Leal said. “But the reminders and the payments are just going often either ignored or even fully ghosted.“

“Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal spoke with Leal about her reporting.
