It’s tough out there for people looking for work, especially as the number of openings continues to decline. And this has led some recruiters, who typically work with employers to find talent, to turn the business model upside down and focus on job hunters, instead.

“These reverse recruiters are basically pitching themselves to job seekers and saying, ‘we will go out and help you find a job,’” said Lindsay Ellis at the Wall Street Journal. “So instead of the company paying for talent, the job seeker is paying to land something.”

Ellis recently wrote about the reverse recruiting trend. “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal spoke to Ellis about her reporting.
