In a recent op-ed published in the New York Times, Marc Scorca, president emeritus of Opera America, wrote about the new budgeting structure that made staying at the Kennedy Center unworkable for the Washington National Opera.

“The idea that all of the revenue would have to be confirmed in advance, and primarily from ticket sales and corporate sponsorships, that’s just impossible,” Scorca said.

“Marketplace” host Kristin Schwab talked to Scorca about the Washington National Opera’s departure from the Kennedy Center and the future of funding the art form.
