DeVos proposes $5B in tax credits for scholarship donations

In an effort to promote school choice initiatives, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced a proposal for $5 billion in tax credits for donations to private school scholarships. Republicans say the proposal will encourage more donations benefiting children who want to opt out of low-performing schools. But critics say it would take money away from other programs and would do nothing to help the public schools that are struggling.
