Kansas City's auto industry is booming thanks, in part, to the popularity of pickup trucks like the Ford F-150.

While news of layoffs in the auto industry have dominated headlines, there are places where the U.S. automotive industry is doing pretty well. One of those places is the Kansas City region which has a Ford and GM plant. The two plants have attracted other companies and jobs, producing an economic impact of around $12 billion for the region, according to the Kansas City Area Development Council.
