The number of people living below the international poverty line has decreased by about a billion over the past 15 years, according to the World Bank’s annual report on global poverty. But the report concludes the threshold for measuring that — those who make less than $1.90 a day — is inadequate. The report introduces new thresholds: $3.20 for lower-income countries and $5.50 for countries considered middle income. The World Bank also says factors other than wages, like access to education and health care, should be taken into account.
