After Niger, counting up the military’s far flung missions

Some lawmakers want to revisit the way we authorize the use of military force around the world.

U.S. military involvement stretches far beyond Iraq and Afghanistan. And while there may be just a handful of operations similar to the one in Niger, where four soldiers were killed earlier this month in a firefight, experts say the military is involved in hundreds of smaller missions around the world that have nothing to do with fighting.
