Legislatures in nine states still haven’t complied with the Real ID Act of 2005. That’s the security standard the Department of Homeland Security set for driver’s licenses that requires things like digital photographs and features to prevent counterfeiting.  Those states now have until Jan. 22, 2018 to comply.  If states don’t do anything, their residents may have to show a passport to get on a plane.
