When it’s hip to be Square

Here are the numbers we're reading and watching for Thursday.

13 percent

That’s how much the average Part D prescription drug plan premium for 2016 is jumping, the biggest hike in six years. Starting Thursday, seniors have a little over seven weeks to enroll in new Medicare plans. A new report out this week shows many people will face higher out-of-pocket costs for prescriptions if they stick with what they’ve got.

$275 million

That’s how much in stock will be offered by payment company Square in it’s IPO announced Wednesday. The company is helmed by co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey. As the Wall Street Journal writes, the move comes amid Square’s run-of-the-mill tech story: growing revenue matched with growing losses.

$500 – $5,000

That’s how much GoPro said it will pay for photos and videos shot on its cameras and uploaded to its online portal. The company said it will spend $5 million a year on the new initiative. While the company has its corner of the market wrapped up, it has also seen interest in the company wane on social media. It’s why GoPro is attempting to build a YouTube-like business.

12 percent

That’s how much Burberry’s shares declined in Thursday morning trading, the worst drop in three years. As Bloomberg writes, the company is hampered by geographic circumstances: Forty percent of European sales come from the U.K., where shoppers are taking advantage of a weak euro by purchasing items elsewhere on the Continent.
