$340 million
That’s the amount of loss American Apparel has seen over the last five years. The store has been struggling in an age of online shopping, and so-called fast fashion stores like H&M. On Monday, the company announced it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As the New York Times writes, the move would reportedly keep all 130 stores in business.
115 documentaries
That’s how many made their debut so far this year. That’s substantially higher than the 97 that came out in 2005. With cheaper production costs and a public hunger for content following popular series like “The Jinx,” it’s a good time to be a documentary filmmaker.

Speaking of documentary films, “Meru” is currently seeing major box office success. What’s even more interesting is the film’s relatively low production costs: In addition to featuring three elite mountain climbers, those same protagonists served as cameramen on the shoot.

That’s how many tweets researchers analyzed in a study to determine if there are correlations between social media presence and socioeconomic status. More than 5,000 users were sorted into different categories, after which patterns were sought out in their collective tweets. Among some of the findings: People with lower incomes were found to swear more, whereas people with higher incomes reacted to content with more anger and fear.
