Prius from ourselves

Here are the numbers we're reading and watching for Wednesday.

4th

That’s the generation number of the latest Toyota Prius, revealed Tuesday evening in Las Vegas. As a review in the Verge notes, the company seems to be changing focus away from the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, instead highlighting its high tech features. Also noted: The car looks even stranger than before.

4,000

That’s how many workers Chipotle has said it would hire Wednesday. But as unemployment falls, the pool of food-service workers to choose from is shrinking right as the restaurant business expands. And that competition for talent is driving wages higher.

40 stores

That’s how many stores Macy’s says it will close by early 2016. Macy’s has closed 52 locations over the last five years, and as the New York Times reports, the yet-to-be-announced locations will have about $300 million in combined revenue.

12,000

That’s how many refugees Australia has committed to accept from Syria and Iraq. The country currently takes in about 13,750 a year. As Bloomberg writes, Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the change in tandem with additional airstrikes against the Islamic State.
