Shutdown stops for no one: Senate’s Ohio Clock stands still

The staff of the Office of the Senate Curator that's responsible for keeping the thing wound has been furloughed.

This final note today, in which the government shutdown becomes almost poetic.

Time is literally standing still in the United States Senate. The 194-year-old Ohio Clock, which been ticking away outside the Senate Chamber since 1859, stopped running at 12:14 Wednesday afternoon because the staff of the Office of the Senate Curator that’s responsible for keeping the thing wound has been — yes — furloughed.
