Walmart to buy out partner in Indian stores

Without a local partner, Walmart will be unable to open more stores in India.

Walmart is dissolving its partnership with an Indian company in what’s being seen as a major setback for its aspirations in India. The American retail giant will buy out the stake of its partner Bharti Enterprises in about 20 wholesale stores they run together. Walmart will continue to run its existing Best Price Modern Wholesale stores, but without a local partner, it will be unable to open other retail outlets in India. The BBC’s Rahul Tandon reports on the latest from Calcutta.
