As the Northeast starts to put itself back together after Superstorm Sandy and the snow storm that followed, gas stations continue to struggle. Those with power found that electricity was only half the battle — supply remains an issue.
New York has imposed gas rationing in some parts of the state to guard against hoarders. But some gas stations just don’t have gas to pump.
Oz Elma manages a gas station in Pelham, N.Y. He doesn’t have any gas and doesn’t know when he’ll get more. Not being able to sell gas has been bad for the bottom line. Before he ran out of gas, customers came from as far as New Jersey to fill up.
But despite the lack of fuel, Elma is staying open. He says he’s still getting customers wanting to buy cigarettes and “coffee…great, delicious coffee.”
