Financial markets shut down in NYC ahead of Sandy

New York City is preparing for Hurricane Sandy by shutting down the city's public transportation. Financial markets will also be closed today.

The normally bustling streets of Manhattan are quiet this morning as the city prepares for Hurricane Sandy. City officials shut down public transportation ahead of the storm last night at 7 pm causing most workers to stay home today and street businesses to close. Airports, commuter trains, and bridges and tunnels are also closed today.

Financial markets are also boarding up for the storm. The New York Stock Exhange has decided not only to shut down physical trading on the exchage floor, but its electronic trading as well. In addition, some companies, such as Pfizer, have delayed their scheduled earnings announcements due to the storm and closure of the markets.
