Facebook pumps up the value of photos

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

As a writer of words and a lousy photographer, I’ve always resented the whole “a picture is worth a thousand words” thing. I mean, geez, how lazy these photographers are. Still, my smartphone is loaded up with, I guess, hundreds of thousands of words based on all the pictures I take.

Facebook is now emphasizing photos more than ever by redesigning the photos section of your Timeline and making the pictures bigger and displaying them in more of a photo collage kind of way. It’s a change that’s just starting to roll out. The new display is supposed to make it easier to share those photos with friends who desperately want to see pictures you’ve taken (just keep believing that!)

Facebook has always been fond of photos but I think we see the shift to Facebook becoming a photo site above all else. Big Face bought Instagram not long ago and it’s seeing competition from the photo-heavy Pinterest.
