Microsoft admits the Surface tablet will make people mad

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

What if Microsoft is actually completely doomed? I’m not saying it is, I’m not even saying it likely is, but one could begin to put together a doomsday scenario. I’ll explain.

The company has now admitted what everyone already knew, that the Surface tablet is likely to anger companies that make PCs because the big software company is butting into the hardware business.

The New York Times notes an SEC filing made by Microsoft and made public yesterday:

The company says in the document that “our Surface devices will compete with products made by our OEM partners, which may affect their commitment to our platform.”

If those companies are unenthused about Microsoft, that dampens their enthusiasm for Windows 8. If that starts to falter, suddenly Windows 8, the biggest Microsoft product launch in years, could become a disappointment to the public as well.

Now, the Surface tablet is another big bet but what if it stinks? And is too expensive for anyone to buy?

Then where does that leave Microsoft? Can it really survive as a maker of the Xbox?
