Twitter unveils new search and discovery system today

It’s hard to find the information you want on Twitter. There’s lots of it on there and it moves extremely quickly, Twitter is the place where I’ve seen most of the big stories break first in the last few years. But it’s hard to search on something without coming back with random strangers saying stupid things in an unreliable fashion.

Twitter intends to solve that problem today with a new search and discovery system that it’s rolling out.

From CNET:

Twitter’s Pankaj Gupta, who runs the company’s Personalization and Recommender Systems, sent out a tweet yesterday congratulating his team on an improvement to its search and discovery tools that he says, will dramatically change the service.
“Search and discovery in Twitter [is] set to change forever after tomorrow,” Gupta tweeted. “Team — congrats and enjoy the enormity of your impact few understand today.”

So what will it look like? Dunno. The buzz is that it will give you more information based on algorithms stemming from who you follow, positing that you’re likely to be happy with tweets from people similar to people you already know. Will that be delightful or an echo chamber? Don’t answer: my question was rhetorical.
