Yahoo! and Facebook getting along

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

I wonder what it’s like being in serious tense confrontational discussions with a company named “Yahoo!” Seems like that exclamation point would just make everything feel sillier somehow. I mean, even writing about them is hard because if you put the name of the company at the end of a sentence then somehow you make it seem like you were yelling or excited throughout the whole sentence. For instance: these are bleak days for anyone planning the future of Yahoo!

Anyway, Yahoo! has been in a patent dispute with Facebook for a while now, having sued Big Face for all sorts of alleged violations. But things may be settling down, according to Bloomberg:

Lawyers for Yahoo asked U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White in San Francisco yesterday for a two-week extension on deadlines to file replies in the lawsuit while the companies hold discussions. The lawyers also asked for a two-week delay in a motion hearing now set for Aug. 10, according to the filing.
“The parties are currently engaged in settlement negotiations to resolve this dispute,” Kevin Smith, a Yahoo lawyer, said in the filing. “The parties believe that a further extension will facilitate settlement.”

Taking some wind out of the lawsuit sails is the fact that the Yahoo! CEO! at! the! time! has! resigned! amid! a! fake! résumé! scandal! Yep, can’t make it happy, really.
