iPad adds more guilty pleasures

Finally! I can read People and InStyle and Entertainment Weekly on my iPad. It’s been a killer to have to read about Kate Middleton’s fashion evolution on paper. After holding out two years, Time Inc is going to start selling all of its magazines through Apple’s newsstand. Why the change of heart now? All Things D reports: It could be as simple as Time Inc. trying to boost sales, which haven’t been stellar recently — a slump at its People magazine title is particularly troublesome for the publisher. Or perhaps parent company Time Warner got some other concession from Apple for one of its other units, like HBO or Turner.
The New York Times reports the deal might also point to changes at Apple:The agreement also signals an evolution for Apple, which has slowly backed away from some of its initial restrictions. Facing competition from Amazon, which sells magazine subscriptions for its Kindle, and Google, which has Android software, Apple has become a more agreeable partner, publishing executives have said.
