China blocks access to searches about Tiananmen Square

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

Today is the anniversary of the Chinese government’s 1989 crackdown on protesters in Tiananmen Square. Hundreds of people were shot by government troops. But type “Tiananmen Square” into a Chinese search engine and you’ll get benign descriptions of the landmark or photos of tourists. The Chinese government has blocked results that acknowledge that something happened on June 4.
