This photo of my father and me has a lot of personal meaning. But it’s also a great picture of what “middle class” meant to my family.  My father’s wearing a suit, dress shirt and tie – he’s a professional.  He’s holding me in one hand – he’s a dad – and a newspaper in the other – he’s educated, and has every expectation that his little girl will go to college one day, too.  We are comfortable, content, secure.
