So long cell-phone contracts

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

The total number of contract cell-phone customers  actually fell in the US last quarter reports AllThingsD. So where’d they go?  Back to land-lines and tin-cans with string?   Nope.   People moved over to prepaid plans.  “The AP did the math and calculated a drop in the industry of 52,000 contract subscribers at the top seven carriers. That contrasts with the prepaid industry (both from the Big Four carriers and smaller players such as MetroPCS, Cricket and Tracfone), which saw gains of two million customers in the quarter.” What’s the trend mean for  us phone users?  More competitive contract prices on their way maybe?
