Google to face huge fine over Safari tinkering

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

Google might be writing a lot of checks in the near future and not just to Oracle.

Bloomberg reports that Googs is in negotiations with the FTC over exactly how big a fine to pay over its breaching of privacy settings on the Safari browser and it could reach 10 million bucks. Safari, made by Apple, has built in privacy settings that are supposed to prevent cookies from being placed on a browser. Google’s cookies circumvented those restrictions. After this was discovered by a Stanford researcher, Google insisted that this was within the rules of Safari and that it had done nothing wrong.

Apparently, Google has either changed its tune or is willing to pay some money to make the whole ugly business go away. It has changed its cookies as well.
