Today’s edition of Last Minute Things Facebook Is Doing Before The Stock Starts Trading comes courtesy of status updates and the new stuff you can do on them. Heck, I remember the days before both Like and Comment and Share (it was a simpler time, young ‘uns, we traveled by prehistoric horse and the Internet was steam-powered). On Wednesday, Big Face announced that websites can use a bit of coding to create new fields alongside the traditional options.

The LA Times says:

“Developers can designate an action link for any action they define, which will then appear throughout Facebook,” wrote Facebook software engineer Alex Wyler.

That means you will start to see news feed and Timeline postings with “cooked a recipe” show up in your feed or have the option to “save this place” on friends’ Fourquare check-ins as developers add this functionality to their apps on Facebook.

Doesn’t seem like the kind of thing ordinary jerks like me can install but it’s likely to make brands happier.
