Tess Vigeland: Our little blue plastic friend is heading to… Well before we get to that, I asked our friends on Facebook this week to tell me why they deserved a pig. Sean Capshaw said — quote — “because I love bacon.”

Jason Miller, starting when he was about eight, took the cookies his mom made and traded them at school for quarters that eventually bought Nintendo games. Sally Gilbride nominated her aunt, who takes all the money she saves from coupons and puts it into a “Pay Me” account. So many awesome stories; it was hard to choose!

But our winner is Kris Keller of Bozeman, Mont. “Oh man, what don’t I deserve a pig for?” she asked. “For living in an 11 x 17′ studio to pay off my debt? For getting many of my hard goods for free from the dumpster? For living in a school bus for *years* in the 90s so I could keep my dog and have affordable housing? For having that rainy day bank account?”

Yes, for all of that, Kris, you get a pig. Facebook submissions from this week will stay in the running for future awards. And by the way our little blue plastic friend is now on Twitter! You can follow him @piggyaward.
