Killing catcalls with an app

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

Council member Christine Quinn announced a new project aimed at deterring harassing comments flung towards women in the streets of New York. Whistles, hoots, and hubba-hubbas will soon be able to be reported to the city via an app that’s going into development.

Reuters reports: “It will be developed by the creators of hollabacknyc.com, a website that asks people to use camera phones to take a photo or video of their harasser and post it online. The new app is expected to work in a similar fashion but could also alert authorities to particularly egregious offenders.” If the app is successful, maybe it will expand to other cities. Just think about how much faster our skyscrapers could get built.
