Your next issue of Next Issue is here

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

Next Issue, an Android tablet-friendly app built to bring you up to 32 magazine subscriptions a month, just launched. The company has contracts with major magazine publishers like Condé  Nast, Hearst, Meredith, and Time, Inc.and will charge a monthly subscription for access. The model that Next Issue is trying out here is interesting, because it’s not charging by the magazine; rather, you pay a flat fee for everything – $10 per month for monthlies and bump it up to $15 if you want weeklies like the New Yorker. It’s like being at the grocery store and browsing through whatever is in the magazine aisle.
The big problem, which you might have guessed from the opening sentence, no iPad. All Things D reports that Next Issue wants to have an Apple-friendly version of the app ready by summer. Also, you have to be running Honeycomb, the Android operating system, which, for now, rules out the majority of non-iPad tablets including the Kindle Fire. But still, if Next Issue can hold on this could be a cool model for the all you magazine lovers out there.
