A middle-aged Internet ponders its existence

“Where did I come from?” Seems a little late in the game to be asking that Internet. And don’t you have that written down somewhere… maybe on your elbow, or how about your index finger. Oh well, in case Internet forgot where came from, its history will go on view, in physical form, starting today at the National Media Museum in Bradford, England. The exhibit, called “Life Online” or LOL for short, will be a part of a permanent collection and aims to explore “the social, technological and cultural impact of the internet.” LOL intends to track significant events throughout the Internet’s history, which I believe starts with the message, “Is this thing on?”while evolving along with whatever is happening now.
While speaking to Tom Woolley, the exhibit’s curator, the BBC finds out that it’s not all dancing babies and status updates:

The exhibition also charts some of the darker moments of the internet’s history, such as the dotcom bubble of the late nineties.

“We have a game where you can try and become a dotcom billionaire – choosing which companies to invest in, and seeing what happens after the dotcom bust,” Mr Woolley explained.
