Pip-pip! Tweet-tweet! Freshen your tea with a spot of Internet?

Spring sprang yesterday, which means the London-hosted 2012 Olympic Games are just around the corner (one season away, by my equinox calendar). And by all accounts, this will be the most streamed, most tweeted, most blogged about Olympics to date. IT experts and Olympic officials might be shivering in their track shoes, however, in anticipation of the high volume of web traffic.

The BBC reports that the Internet Service Providers’ Association warns of “a massive hit on the infrastructure.” The Beeb spoke with ISPA member James blessing, who said, “service providers are not expected to cap data use but may use technology to manage the network at peak times to prevent access from stalling completely.” No throttling of data, just slow Internets the world over. Tally-ho! See you on the track and field! Don’t forget your wellies, if it’s raining.
