Seriously, Amazon is hiring entertainment executives, apparently with the intent of creating original content, namely comedy series and children’s programming. Gizmodo reports that Amazon exec Joe Lewis briefly listed his title as Vice President of Original Television on Twitter yesterday and Wired reports that Amazon was listing job openings for program development last month.

And why not? Everyone else is diving in: Netflix, Hulu, even Yahoo, amid reports of bloodbath-style layoffs, just launched a comedy channel. Everyone’s looking for ways to take advantage of the public’s thirst for amusement and easy access to the Internet.
