Verizon launches home wireless, faster than wired

This is a Marketplace.org Reader

Verizon has a new Internet access option aimed at customers in remote or rural areas who have a hard time hooking up to DSL or cable for their connection. It’s called HomeFusion, because apparently everything needs to be written in camel case these days and is actually faster than most DSL connections. The catch: it requires attaching a huge cylindrical antenna that looks a lot like a 5-gallon bucket to the outside of your house. The antenna costs $200 but Verizon will set it up for free. The service costs $60 a month and is capped at 10gb of data.

This is Verizon’s effort to compete with satellite home Internet access, which are sometimes the only options for remote areas.
