Peeling back the cover on a music archive

The record collection of iconic British DJ John Peel, who died suddenly in 2004, is beginning a new life online. Each week, running from May through October of this year, a website called the Space will add 100 records of Peel’s 25,000+ collection vinyl records. It’s not meant to be a streaming site, but there will be some songs available and links to his famous “Peel Sessions.” It will be more of a museum of the taste-maker’s collection, with annotations and scans of album covers.

From the BBC:

The legendary DJ’s collection also includes 40,000 vinyl singles as well as CDs, but the project will focus on loading the vinyl first along with some of his personal notes, contributors’ stories and filmed interviews with family and musicians.
