Like to watch live news online? HuffPo to the rescue

Hooray for CHOICES!

The Huffington Post unveiled its plans to stream 12 hours of daily news on what it’s calling the Huffington Post Streaming Network, or HSPN. The network will be up and running this summer. The New York Times debut its own streaming news program, Business Day Live, this week, but don’t expect 12 hours from the Old Gray Lady. The show clocks in at six minutes and has plans to be made into something longer.

HuffPo’s site is pretty ambitious – it’s aiming to be the Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC of the web. In addition to live streams, the site will offer quick links to HuffPo articles and non-streaming videos. All Things D points out that its parent company has been producing news for the Wall Street Journal Digital Network for a while, but neither the Times or Journal are really pushing live content. Appointment viewing coughed its last dying breath about the same time Lost went off the air, so it’s going to be interesting to see if people will tune in.
