Research company, Canalys, came out with a report yesterday, using 4th quarter statistics from 2011, that shows Apple besting HP for the first time in personal computer sales. Of course you have to buy into the Canalys way of thinking, which says that iPads, and other tablets, are PCs. In fact,  the report shows that 22 percent of all PC sales came from tablets, which means an increase in overall PC sales.

As the New York Times reports: “Without the lift from tablets, the PC market looked bleak during the quarter, declining 0.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, Canalys said.”

So, do you think of a tablet as the same as a PC? There’s the whole attached keyboard thing, but that’s really cosmetic. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t get by with the processing power and limitations of a tablet. Sure they’re nice to look at and convenient, but when push comes to shove, I’ll opt for my laptop.
