After Wednesday’s online protests against SOPA and PIPA, Chris Dodd he wouldn’t mind convening a summit between Internet players and Entertainment execs, possibly moderated by the White House. Dodd is the former long-time senator of Connecticut and current CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which has been lobbying hard for the bills to become law. Before Wednesday, Dodd called the online protests a “gimmick,” now the New York Times quotes him as saying,“‘This [protest]  is altogether a new effect,’ Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing ‘an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically’ in the last four decades.” What he’s referring to here is the number of senators that change their minds about supporting PIPA. We reported yesterday that 26 senators had reversed their decisions, seven of whom were co-sponsors of the bill.
