Near-future Facebook status: just crashed

Face forward. Hands on the 10 and 2.

Mercedes has teamed up with Facebook to integrate the social network into its cars. No, it’s not a full-functional version of Facebook (no entering text while the car is in motion) and yes, safety concerns have been taken into consideration. But do you really need, and I mean NEED, to be broadcasting every red light you stop at? Dan Rose, a VP at Mercedes, says people are already looking at their in-car screens for GPS. From Reuters: “The Facebook application displays a variety of standard, pre-written postings that a driver can publish on Facebook with quick taps or turns of a knob.” Hopefully the engineers have figured out how to geolocate the nearest hospital, so your car can automatically check you in when the ambulance takes you there.
