Usually ATM skimmers are a bit crude, and a careful eye can spot a fraud. A new case in West Hills, Calif., however, shows a new level of sophistication. According to Krebs on Security, the skimming device that steals your PIN code and security information was “made with the help of a 3D printer.” There’s a tiny hole just below the slot for your card, which houses a camera. Inserting your ATM card triggers the camera to turn on and record your PIN number. The guts of the skimmer also capture information from the magnetic strip on your card, then transfer all the stolen info via Bluetooth to a computer. I suppose it was only a matter of time before somebody took something so cool, like a 3D printer, and used it for no good. My money is on Lex Luthor.
