And this final note, if you’re among those Americans who wish that Thanksgiving Day would keep being about
Thanksgiving — and not shopping.

Take a look at a proposal on the op-ed pages of today’s New York Times. Cornell economics professor Robert Frank has a policy proposal that has about as much chance of passing as your turkey had of living to a ripe old age. But it’s still worth a mention.

He suggests a 6 percent across-the-board national sales tax on all purchases made between 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and 6 a.m. on the following Friday. He calls it his 6-6-6 plan.
