According to a letter recently made public by the Senate Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt did his best to play down the company’s dominance in the search industry. Schmidt went so far as to say Google might be behind the eight ball, when it comes to Apple’s new voice-command software, Siri.

In backtracking on a quote in which he said Apple was not a competitive threat, Schmidt pointed to Siri, which he called a ‘significant development. He went on to say that ‘Google has many strong competitors and we sometimes fail to anticipate the competitive threat posed by new methods of accessing information.'” Schmidt was answering questions stemming from his appearance before the subcommittee in September. There were more questions than the initial date had time for, and some senators submitted questions for Schmidt in writing.
