We first told you about the Stop Online Piracy Act last week when it was hot off the presses. It’s a rather aggressive bill introduced in the House aimed curbing online piracy by kicking offending users and websites off the internet. Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, is coming out against the bill saying it would put an unfair burden of enforcement on tech companies and would stifle creative innovation. The Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America are both lined up in favor of the bill along with the US Chamber of Commerce. They support it because, they say, they are cheated out of billions of dollars by bootleg recordings. This bill will get a lot more contentious before it ever reaches a vote.
