Google Buzz may be abandoned but the repercussions over the service live on. When Buzz launched in 2010, there was a lot of sharing of contacts from Gmail on Buzz. This meant that it was easy for anyone to tell who anyone else knew, no permissions necessary. Google fixed and apologized and paid millions in settlement fees but the FTC went after it anyway. Now a deal has been finalized whereby agrees to third party privacy monitoring for the next 20 years to ensure it’s handling these issues properly. Buzz will be dead in the next few weeks but that’s not because of this, it’s because the service sucks real bad and Google wants to concentrate on Google+.
