It’s never good when a company thanks its CEO for his service in the same press release that announced he’s stepping down. But that’s exactly what happened today at First Solar, the country’s biggest solar company.

No comment other than Rob Gillette’s “no longer serving as CEO.” There’s no whiff of impropriety.

Could be as simple as this: Last time the company reported profits, earnings were down 62 percent.
