Hurricane Irene hit some parts of the Northeast this weekend particularly hard, like Vermont, which may have to do with its landscape. President Obama announced his latest nomination to his Council of Economic Advisers. And finally, musician Ry Cooder stopped by the Marketplace studio to talk about this new album, “Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down,” which is streaming here. And here are the songs we played:

  • A Candle’s Fire – BeirutBuy

  • Everything Falls Apart – The One AM RadioBuy

  • The Matador Has Fallen – Danger MouseBuy

  • El Corrido de Jesse James – Ry CooderBuyStream
